It's all in the Details

The old saying "it's all in the details" holds true when creating a beautiful entryway in a home.  Unique iron railings transform the common staircase and set the tone for a home as soon as you step foot inside the front door.  Here are some of our favorite statement making stair railings, ranging from clean simplicity to ornate geometry.

Retailer Spotlight: Ruth & Ollie

In this week's Retailer Spotlight, we are excited to feature Ruth & Ollie, located in the popular Carytown area of Richmond, Virginia.
Retail entrepreneurs Kat and Mike Liebschwager both left successful corporate careers to follow their passions and create more meaningful work for themselves.  Kat led the way in 2002 when she began taking interior design classes.  She opened her namesake design firm, Kat Liebschwager Interiors, in 2003 after learning the ropes working with another local design firm.  KLI quickly grew, and the husband and wife team decided Richmond was in need of a retail store that carried items for the home seen in shelter magazines or only available to interior designers.  The Liebschwagers opened Ruth & Ollie (named for Mike's grandmother, Ruth, and Kat's great grandmother, Ollie) in July of 2006 with a focus on unique furnishings, lighting, pillows and accessories that tell a story and create a warm, inviting home.

Lake House Dreaming

When it comes to summer vacations, it seems that most folks are either lake people or beach people.  I always thought of myself as the latter... until a relaxing weekend on the lake with a group of friends from college made me think otherwise.  Now I am dreaming of one day owning a lake house close enough to Atlanta to spend summer weekends relaxing and enjoying nature with family and friends.  Unfortunately, I tend to dream big, as in this gorgeous Bill Ingram designed home on Lake Martin in Alabama.  It is pure lake house perfection!
What about you, are you a "lake person" or a "beach person"?

The home sits on a large lot with panoramic views of Lake Martin

Love the casual shingled exterior
Detached garage in a shade of dark green
that complements the trees and shrubbery
Welcome home! (I wish)
Varying shades of leafy green are used throughout
the house, blending with the beautiful natural surroundings
A stone wall and ceiling beams are rustic, yet chic
The dining space is casual and inviting, with hints of drama
A massive kitchen island perfect for entertaining
The master bedroom has elements from nature - like the
fabric canopy with ferns in sepia tones
Lake house living is all about the outdoors -
even the master bath opens out to the yard!

Textile Tuesday: Decorating with Suzanis

Suzani is a type of embroidered, decorative tribal textile made in Uzbekistan, Kasakhstan and other Central Asian countries.  Traditionally made by brides to be gifted to the groom on their wedding day, each Suzani tells a unique story.  Popular design motifs include sun and moon disks, flowers, leaves, vines and fruits and occasionally fish and birds. These colorful, intricately designed textiles are a great way to add visual interest to a home.
