Make Room on the Shelf

We love a good design book (as evidenced by our bursting-at-the-seams antique bibliotheque in the Lacefield design studio)! A bevy of beautiful books are set to launch over the next few months. Where will be put them all?! Some of the book launches we are most excited about:

Boston based blogger/designer Erin Gates' much anticipated first book was released on October 7th. She is in the midst of a whirlwind book tour, which includes a stop in Atlanta this Saturday.  Erin will be signing her book from 1-3 pm at Ballard Designs on DeFoor Avenue.  We have followed Erin's blog Elements of Style for years, and are so excited to meet her in person!

Elements of Style
Atlanta based Nancy Braithwaite is known for her refined restraint in design.  Her career has spanned forty years with a focus on a singular vision: Simplicity. Nancy's first book, aptly titled Simplicity, is set to release on October 14th.

Atlanta has no shortage of talented designers.  Barbara Westbrook is a favorite.  Her design firm, Westbrook Interiors, focuses on her signature style: tasteful, tactile, timeless and simply elegant interiors. We are looking forward to the release of her book, Gracious Rooms, in March 2015.

Atlanta designer Barbara Westbrook's first book
is set to launch in March 2015.  Pre-order here.

California designer Windsor Smith has long been known for her fresh approach to modern day living, but her media popularity surged after actress Gwyneth Paltrow purchased the Brentwood 'House of Windsor' in 2012.  Her upcoming book, Homefront, is sure to be a best seller.

Designer to the stars, Windsor Smith, will release
her new book, Homefront, in April 2015.

Retailer Spotlight: Milly & Grace

Emily Ott Hollister originally planned to spend one summer on Nantucket before moving to Boston to pursue a "real job".   Fast forward several years and Emily is now deeply rooted in the Nantucket lifestyle as owner of one of the island's hottest retail shops, Milly & Grace.  Named after her two grandmothers, Milly & Grace is a thriving family business.  Emily's mother assists with the buying, her sisters help on the sales floor and her best friends manage the store day-to-day.  The trio of sisters, Emily, Allison and Caroline, also run the popular lifestyle blog, The Milly and Grace Girls Blog, together. It looks like Emily ended up with the best kind of "real job" a girl could dream of!

Textile Tuesday: Zira Seaside

The star of this week's Textile Tuesday feature is Zira Seaside, a versatile small scale block print fabric inspired by the floral motif in the Lacefield logo.  Zira was carved on a linoleum block and hand stamped to create the pattern repeat, giving it a very organic look. The simple, ethnic vibe of Zira works with a wide range of decor styles and creates an interesting mix with geometric, ikat and even floral patterns.

Zira has received quite a bit of blogger love in the past week!  Charlotte, from Ciburbanity, featured Zira Seaside today in her Signature Style Series mood board. Charlotte is one of 22 bloggers participating in this week's Signature Style Series organized by Carrie from Making Lemonade. Each day, these uber creative bloggers share an inside look at their signature style.  On Friday, Carrie will wrap up the week with an amazing GIVEAWAY you won't want to miss! Hint: Lacefield pillows might be involved!

All that Glitters

We just returned from a whirlwind week in NYC for the NY NOW gift and home furnishings market. A visit to NYC never fails to inspire, and NY NOW can't be beat for spotting the latest trends in design. Designer Lulu DK has launched a line of temporary, jewelry inspired metallic tattoos and it felt as if EVERYONE was sporting these glittering pretties at market.  The tattoos, available in gold or silver, are non toxic, apply with water and last 4 - 6 days.  Priced around $22 for two sheets, these flash tattoos are an inexpensive way to add a little bling to a summer wardrobe.  Will you embrace this flash tattoo trend?

Friday Faves: Collecting Ironstone

Happy Friday!  The weekend is upon us, and the second weekend of the month is always a favorite because it means one thing... treasure hunting at Scott's Antique Market.  Known as the "world's largest indoor antique show", Scott's Antique Market never disappoints. Designers, collectors and vintage lovers across the southeast descend upon Atlanta's Exposition Center south of the city the second weekend of each month to scour the wares of hundreds of vendors.  If you have never attended Scott's, click here for a great photo tour by Rhoda Vickers of Southern Hospitality Blog.

Our mission this weekend: hunting for vintage ironstone dinnerware.
